Introducing Chapulín Colorado!
"More agile than a turtle, stronger than a mouse, nobler than lettuce, his emblem is a heart... It's the Colored Grasshopper!"
This is the story of what started as a simple search for a small compact car that sipped gas, and thus transformed to the fine example of a CRX enthusiast's love.
The project started in May 2006 when nylumiro24 joined the 82D ABN DIV (82nd Airborne Division) of the US Army. While looking at the new Civic platform, nylumiro24 spotted the 1991 CRX DX driving by with a for sale sign in it. A quick fetch of the number and a call later nylumiro24 found himself at the owners house. The first original owner in fact, that cried when the little CRX was driving away.
No More Tears
Later that same day while cleaning the car nylumiro24 named the car "Chapulin Colorado." Hence the introduction to the TV show " El Chapulin Colorado," which is nylumiro24's favorite childhood television show.
Two months later after driving the CRX back to his hometown in the Bronx for storage while he was deployed in Iraq, nylumiro24 was doing some research for his CRX when he found a great place on the web, none other than crxcommunity.com!
After lurking around the community for a bit nylumiro24 came upon jfrolang's monster and noticed his was different....Thus is where the addiction we CRX owners endure takes hold and parts are ordered and the first chance to put them on involved the beginning mods: coilovers, rims, tint, intake, header, and an audio system. It's safe to say after enjoying these first mods a relapse occured, as more parts found their way onto the CRX! As soon as his deployment was over, new work began, and these parts show evidence of the more advanced stage of CRX addiction: a JDM front end, restored seats, and the one many of us go for, an engine swap. In this case, a JDM B16A with LSD!
Next Stages
The community fed this addiction more with the how-to's and us picture lovers who read nylumiro24's build thread. That particular build thread includes a fresh paint job with the JDM front end, the suspension swap, the engine swap (including getting a WAY wrong motor dropped off), and much more on just how far this CRX has come. Which to quote nylumiro24, "....there is still a lot to come because you never get tired, bored or satisfied with your project." and in saying that he lists many more future mods for "Chapulin Colorado".....
