I just picked up my new projekt car, Black Betty, about a week ago. She's a 1991 EDM EE8 B16a1. I've been stationed in northern Italy now for right at a year and have been looking for a CRX the entire time, even as far away as England. After all that time and a bunch of no-go's, a guy on base bought a skyline and tells me his CRX is just sitting there collecting dust. Best part, he has no idea what he has or what he's doing. He sells it to me for $900 and throws in 2 12's in a box with an 1800w amp! After I sell those, the car will have cost me like $750 8)

Good stuff: IT'S A CRX!! It's EDM and has a B16a1, came with headers, CAI and a cat back installed, no rust, no leaks!!

Bad stuff: She had damage to the front and rear, seats destroyed (seat pic is ONLY decent part of either seat), dash cracked, needed 2 new tires, bad CV joint, a short in one headlight.

Not bad at all.., especially since the only thing I wanted her for was the chassis and engine as a projekt platform. As of right now, I won't be able to bring her back stateside when I leave, so I plan on buying parts and building her, then stripping her down and back to original parts when I leave. That way I can re-sell her and take all my CRX parts/engine for a rolling chassis that's in great shape :)

Here's some pics at purchase and the first weekend. I took a sledge and a crowbar to the front and rear and got most of it straight. Can't do anymore until I have a straight rear bumper cover and time to pull the headlights, fenders and front bumper off again:

Rigged up this little beauty to pass inspection.. NOS energy drink bottle with a DC2 washer motor (fits perfectly snug), ran wires and lines, popped a small hole in the bottom of the bottle to alleviate the pressure and then put it in the bay inside the passenger side fender.. The bottle was laying at a hard angle with the washer motor on the bottom to feed and the breather hole up top. It may look stupid, but if it works.. :)b

The car has been out of commission for 21 months now, and after the year-long build the first time around due to parts arriving, yeah my patience level has reached astronomical levels for sure :(

Me too man.. I just got back from Croatia. Went to Zadar and Plitvice this trip.. Croatia is definitely our favorite place in Europe :) One of these days I'll get to Grobnik!

#181 ·
Nice to hear that !

I don't know was wheater good to you, but If i could choose, I would go to Plitvice when there is small rain drops. I mean, it's nice when it's sunny, but you should see it when there is small rain. :D

Are you coming with your car on Grobnik, or?

#182 ·
Yeah, the plan is to run the car at Grobnik. I just have to wait until it's ready. I also want to go to the EE8 meet in Germany if possible and maybe the Honda Euro Meet in August in Belgium.

#184 ·
I won't know until my car is fixed and I can break the motor in. Hopefully, that will be soon. Maybe late summer/early fall.

#185 ·
Finally got the parts installed and the car cranked.. She's running nice and smooth :) Hopefully I'll be able to get her back on the dyno again soon to finish the tune!

SHE'S ALIVE!!!!!! Only took damn near two years!!! I got to drive her today for a few minutes :bounce: but they still have a couple things to button up before I pick her up in a day or so.

They're telling me there's an injector issue.. They said I'm running at 90% duty cycle / 14ms... I'm not sure how that's possible, wondering if maybe a tune/hardware issue? I ran the equation I know through a calculator and came up with:

BSFC: 0.65 (based on basic turbo numbers)
HP (crank estimated): 400 (high)
# injectors: 4
Max Duty: 80%
-------------------
853.1cc

I'm running ID 1000cc injectors with max 360hp to the wheels. According to those numbers I should have plenty of breathing room.. Instead they're telling me I'm at 90% :/

BUT... 1000cc @ 90% DC puts me at roughly .73 BSFC... Just seems really high for wasted fuel :/

I can think of one simple thing and one complicated thing re: your injectors- what is your fuel pressure, and are you running data acquisition on fuel pressure vs. load? That's the simple thing, the other is a question about the injector driver circuit matching the injectors' parameters.

Bam-ba-lam, at least you are on the road!

I will hopefully have more info in a day or so.. still waiting to pick up the car, haven't had a chance to hook the computer to it and download the parameters. Then I will have the fuel pressure numbers as well as a log and map. Just hope it's something simple to adjust!

Finally got the car back :bounce:

First couple hours at the house and already got the temp washer bottle installed and lights sorted to pass inspection :D

Gotta cut WAY more out of the front bumper to fit the massive Speed Factory IC.., so hopefully that'll be done this evening so I can take her on the street tomorrow for break-in.

As she sits, 350whp. I can bring that number up by sorting out the 90% duty cycle issue on the injectors, but I don't think I'll be upping my HP here in Italy. 350 on these slick ass streets here is plenty. Maybe run a second map for the track at some point.

BUT WHATEVER... SHE'S HOME! :D

One day back and she has the washer tank installed, had to grind down the IC hangers and cut out more of the stock bumper to get it mounted, the stock VTEC red tails are in, and put over 100km on her for break-in.. she's definitely needy!

After dinner I checked for leaks and she definitely has one.. Looks like oil is leaking but couldn't see exactly where from. Pretty sure it's the back side of the engine, possibly the oil pan gasket but not sure. It was so nice having her for a day with no jump-out-at-you problems.. I guess we're back to the same old story :(

Still have to sort out my fuel pressure and ECT issues.. But if I get the oil leak stopped she's at least drivable!

Hard to get under it in my garage with just a floor jack, but looks like it's coming from the drain plug. I took a hex to it and it seems plenty tight, just hope they didn't over-tighten it and caused a problem. Other than that I couldn't tell anything else was wrong. I just drove it another hundred kilometers so we'll see.

Another thing that's happening is that when I stop and get gas, the damn car doesn't want to crank again :/ I have to sit there for like 20 minutes before it'll crank.. I tried to adjust the warm crank numbers in hondata, but just throwing some numbers at it really (based on what was already input). Nada.. This happened the other day at the gas station as well.. But when I'm not getting gas and shut it off, I generally have to prime it twice real quick and then crank and she'll start. Still waiting to get my fuel pressure gauge to see where we're at, but yeah..

#195 ·
Nothing shiny and polished to look at, but she weighs in at 350whp with room to spare. The parts list is on page 1:

New tails put on.. Was euro clears when I bought her.

#196 ·
Just got the registration sorted out and fixed to reflect the fact that she is INDEED a 1991, making her importable when I leave here :)

#198 ·
Ordered new heater control unit from a fellow CRX'r on here, as well as new Innovative 75A motor mounts (90-91 Integra/92-93 Integra GSR for EE8) and trunk lid shocks.. The new B&M fuel pressure gauge should be here soon as well.. She's got a long way to go, but at least she's back to get started on!

#199 ·
At this point I would be showing off a ratty little cooling plate installed between the manifold and space between the radiator/intercooler which regulated my temps to normal.., but just in time for that to be done, AND ready to install my B&M fuel gauge.., ANNNND install my new Innovative motor mounts.., the hood latch broke

I can't win with this car.. It's like a super hot girlfriend who knows she's super hot and can piss you off constantly because she knows you love her and she thinks it's cute..

#200 ·
So my hood latch broke or became disconnected.., but I can't tell which because the shop installed a plastic wall around my radiator/IC to regulate the temps.. They zip-tied them to my effin bumper and to my t-bracket.., so now I can't see the latch nor get to it, I have to remove the plastic walls to get to it, have to remove the bumper to take them off, then have to fix and replace all of those damn zip-ties  So pissed right now.. I really do wish I had a shop that I could get special custom work done without it being ratty, like a brushed aluminum etc type plate that I could use a few bolts to install/remove.., but NOOOOOOOOO.., gotta be stuck here in the land of the lost :(

#201 ·
Ehhhh, whatsamatta, you no like-a da Italian engineering? Better check your crank case, they might have filled it with olive oil. Maybe you can reach up through where your washer bottle used to be and find your hood latch cable from there.
