Racing Seat Recovery

Postby StickerBum » Tue Nov 29, 2016 12:44 pm

So I recently picked up some racing seats for good deal, but the leather was destroyed. For 20 dollars; however, I took the dive into teaching myself to sew and work with fabrics. I have had little sewing experience before, so this will be quite the journey. The goal of this restoration is to make some seats that I like, learn the rope of sewing, and keep the costs under the price of even one seat from the factory. Will upload some pics later.

I can't seem to find any specific branding on them, they look kind of like Sparcos to me. Any thoughts?

Your google drive is a little locked down. Could you maybe post up on flickr or imgur?
I got a new shell, just need to stop driving the DX so I can work on it.

I've got a filter for my mouth, it just isn't a good one.

If they don't say Sparco on any part of the seat (including the plastic surrounds around the holes), then they're not Sparcos.

Just general AP1 or similar knockoffs. I'm assuming no certification anywhere on them? If not, they're not good for some places, and generally questionable if using for non-street driving.

I understand if you're on a budget, but using these would give me the willies.

I was skeptical at first, but the build quality is very impressive, and all metal bits are sturdy all around. They feel as durable as a friends bucket seats, so I believe they will meet my needs.

The look cool, but will need a lot of work. Did you check underneath the seat and near/on the rails? There's generally stickers or etching of a model number or manufacturer.

Sorry for being late on the updates, but I just finished these up. I identified them as recently discontinued Summit Racing seats from searching the internet. Usually 198 each, quite a steal at 40 for both!
They are a little wrinkled, but I love learning new skills and knowing that I made them, pics will be up shortly
