First up... how to search:
[Updated by crxfisher]
As of March 2009, we now have a custom Google search embedded into the page. Simply type your search terms into the Google box and click search. It searches only this site and returns your results on the same page. No more special google-hacks for a functional forum search anymore. Simple and quick.
Next, how to make shortened links and embedded urls
First off, get the address of the website you want to link, for example, this site, http://crxcommunity.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Normally you just type or paste the full address with or without [url]brackets, and there you are. Let's say we want to instead make it display as "CRX Community" as a clickable link, like this: [url=http://crxcommunity.com]CRX Community[/url].
Instead of surrounding the link with url brackets like you normally would, you enter it like this:
- Code: Select all
As you can see, the link is in the first url bracket with "=" added between the url txt and the link. The text you want to appear, in this case "CRX Community", goes next, followed by the closing /url bracket.
How to post images
This one is pretty simple.
You must have the image hosted first online somewhere in order to post it. Most people use photobucket, imagestation, or something like that. If you use one of those hosting sites, once uploaded, they will usually show the entire code with the IMG tags already for you to copy and paste onto the forum in your message.
You can also use the img buttons directly over the text box that we have on here.
Click once for an open tag, and again for a close tag (with / backslash). Any open tags will automatically be closed at the end of your text when you post or preview the message. If you see an asterisk * on the Img button, or any other button for that matter, it will add a /img at the very end of your entered message when you post it.
To post the above image of the Img button, you would use code like this:
- Code: Select all
Making it all easier
If you're running Firefox, there's a great add on that makes this all easier. It's called BBCodeXtra, and you can get it here. Once you install it you can simply copy your link and use a right click menu to easily create an embedded url, quote, or image.
It looks like this:
How to embed videos:
Youtube is easy: just copy the youtube link, paste it into the post, highlight it and click the [youtube] button above.
Vimeo is a little different: use this link http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=xxxxxxxx, where I have the X's, replace with the 8 digit number code at the end to the particular vimeo video code, select/highlight it and click the [youtube] button. This will embed it. Here's an example:
