I'm new to this forum, and new to CRX's, but very excited about getting mine on the road and track. I just purchased a 90 CRX base model, which looks like it was sitting up for approx a year. Previous owner had it for a couple months, trying to get it to start but to no avail. He said the fuel pump hanger was crap, so he replaced it with an Airtex hanger and attempted to upgrade with a high performance pump.
After he got fuel pressure to the filter, he still couldn't get it to start, so he sold the new high performance pump to his buddy for use in his Nissan 240. He didn't have time to deal with it anymore, and I then purchased the CRX from him. When I went to purchase it, his buddy handed me his old stock pump from the Nissan, saying it was the same pump.

I have the tank dropped, and it looks clean inside!
Looks like they hacked the wiring and internal rubber hose when they took the pump off last time (probably they didn't bother to drop the tank all the way). Also, I will need to purchase a fuel sock as it is missing.
It is not clear how the pump stays clipped into the hanger....maybe there is a clip on the bottom of the pump that I don't have.
Also, for the positive wire coming through the flange, there is some kind of RTV applied to the inside at the connector which didn't hold up well to the gasoline/fumes and looks like it is turning to jelly.

1 - although it will look like a hack job, is there anything wrong with using a hose clamp to hold the pump to the hanger? or is there some type of clip I can purchase short of buying a new pump. I really don't want to pour money into a pump until I know what it is going to take to get up and running, so I'd like to attempt to use the Nissan pump if I can - I have pressure gauges to confirm the suitability of the proposed pump once installed.

2 - Are there any special specs on the internal short piece of hose used to connect the pump to the hanger?

3 - Is there any special specs on wire used internal to the tank such that it the wire insulation doesn't degrade from the gasoline/fumes?

4 - anyone ever see this RTV / sealant type material applied to the connector at the inside of the flange? Mine has turned to jelly, and is obviously the wrong thing to use (if needed at all). Is this standard on all pumps? If so, what product works?

FYI, I realize the sock I need to get has to be the proper length/angle, so I'll make sure to get that right.

While I can't answer your questions, I can say the fuel pump was likely not the problem to begin with, it's a high possibility it was the main relay under the driver side dash. Marimo is correct, it is very rare for a Honda fuel pump to go. Even the stock 25+ year pumps. Check/replace the main relay and go from there, you can even jump the fuel pump circuit from the relay.

What engine/ECU are currently in the car?
1991 HF - previously '90 B18A1 now '97 B18C1

Rare indeed. Still have 80's Accords running with original fuel pumps in them.

OP, zip-ties are your friend and fuel hosing is pretty much all the same. If you really need it replaced, cut the hose off and take it with you when you're looking for the right size.
I got a new shell, just need to stop driving the DX so I can work on it.

I've got a filter for my mouth, it just isn't a good one.

Thanks for the responses.
I contacted the aftermarket company (Airtex) who the previous owner purchased the fuel pump "hanger" from, and explained I was missing all components associated with it (screen, hose, check valve, rubber thing which sandwhiches the screen flange to the pump). They said those were not for sale seperately, but told me to send my address and they would send those free of charge!
The pump i was given came off a nissan 240, and appears it will work with a slight length modification. It is similar to the stock pump, but longer. I dont have the stock pump.

I found some viton heat shrink, which i will use to cover the internal wire inside the tank.
So to resolve my pump issue, i'm down a few bucks on heat shrink plus a foot or two of wire. Thanks!
