Anyway, I just thought it was interesting to find out what all got tore up, thought you guys might too.The case is trash but can anyone who rebuilds trans use the gears and stuff? Atleast someone can get some use out of it, otherwise I'm just gonna get rid of it

I left them at work, i have no idea what condition they are in, pretty sure ONE of them broke, but I have no idea which one. I'll take pics of everything I got Friday, when I go in to work again. I have a dx chassis, but it had a d16 in it, but I don'k know of it was specifically an SI Trans, is there a badge or stamp somewhere to identify to let you know?

It's like a horror movie, you want to look away but you cant .. lol

Yeah it's obvious the diff failed ,
And i see a hole in the case,
What is that rod with the spring on the end ? shifter mechanism ?
And what is that round item at around 3 o clock between the diff and the gears ?
still learning about transmissions .. sorry for newbie questions .. hehe ..

5-R spring.
Diff pin, then end that doesn't have the retaining pin that sits in the diff carrier.

If I was in your area I'd collect the parts, but shipping to Ohio makes it not worth it.

But I hate to see then scrapped, it's just not right!

I'll keep them around. Maybe one day I'll get to fix a trans with them or something. But I really am gonna use the diff gears or whatever they are called as paperweights lol

I thought you might enjoy this .. it's a rear wheel drive trans but .. same concept ..
How a manual transmission works
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOo3TLgL0kM
This one also good .. nice he draws the lines on the video ..
BTW .. second half of the video .. same as the first half .. no audio
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aym5H66WNu4

And i like this guys "no bull" explanation of syncro rings .. kind of explains lockout and the teeth as well as why those grooves are inside the syncros .. and why the correct lube is important ..
It's really hard to find a honda transaxle video .. i really wanted to see what those spider gears were doing but
I can't seem to find a video on that.
What the F*** are those spider gears doing .. still a mystery to me .. :( ( I"m guessing the gears that looks like spiders are the spider gears btw haha )
And i'd like to find a video that "specifically" explains the shifter mech .. but eh .. not finding it .. oh well
I believe I have the problem he explains in my 2cd gear because i can't really downshift to second when turning a tight turn and trying to downshift to slow the car and assist braking .. argh .. 2cd is my favorite for that ..
I have to use 3rd gear to downshift on tight turns at an intersection .. blah .. no acceleration out of the turn .. :(
Sycro Rings explained
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXsRfbOiBhE

enjoy .. happy to help .. ;)

I've actually watched that video before! I like his explanation but I'm one of the people that I have to physically touch and move it. Once I can see it then I got it. He cracks me up with his little camera remote lol. The spider gears have officially retired from the transmission life and are now enjoying retirement as paperweights at the shop.

yep , that's me too .. i just don't have a transmission to touch .. lol.
I'm preparing for the moment when that day arrives.
This post re-sparked my interest and prompted me to do more prep.
just figured i'd post what i watched not knowing if you'd seen it or not yet.

and what i think is funny about the video is ,, he takes a few breaks but never seems to get that drink of water he needs to stop coughing .. lol

Find a used Lego car. Seriously. There are ones with working transmissions and differentials! That's what finally got the whole shifting thing to make sense to me.

The spider gears are inside the differential. They're the smaller bevel gears inside the diff.

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm

The shifter is explained on page 2 or 3 of this article: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/transmission.htm

Basically, the gear that you want to select spins loose on the shaft. There is a collar that is splined to the shaft so that it rotates with the shaft, but it can slide back and forth along it. The front edge of the collar has teeth that mesh with teeth on the side of the gear. When you move the collar (the slider) it connects the gear to the shaft, so that the gear now rotates with the shaft instead of spinning on it.
