Shifter rod gets pretty hot

Postby NerdCore314 » Wed Sep 28, 2011 10:51 pm

I tried to google this but all that came up was people whining about their metal shift knob getting too hot to touch during the day :?

My question is.... I took the old shift boot off of my crx because it was trash, I gotta get a new one. Anyways, when I shift I usually put my hand on the shifter rod (or whatever you call it) that holds the shift knob and it gets pretty hot? Not unbearably hot but pretty warm, I didnt know if that was normal, a sign of trans problems, or because the shifter bushings (or whatever) are shot?

Weird but anyone have any ideas?

Your exhaust is using it as a heat sink :-)b

Took the rex to the shop and they raised it up on the lift and noticed the resignator (or whatever its called) was right on the bottom of the shifter arm. Which is why my shifting was so rough and what caused the shifter to get so hot (like you said, it was using it as a heat sink) so he got a crow bar and pushed the exhaust about an inch away from the shifter bar, fixing that heating up issue, the rough shifting and the loud rattling it was making.
