Type R in US?

Postby 91crxsi4ever » Mon Dec 15, 2014 8:08 pm

Hope there is some truth to it and not just another rumor. With Focus RS coming to US, Honda may have no choice but come up with something better than current Civic Si.I don't think we should blame Honda for not having Type R in US, thing is we are too cheap .We want Type R with DX price tag, just take CRX for example. We only got SOHC here not because Honda couldn't put DOHC and VTEC in them but because we didn't want to pay more then $10-$12K for econobox at the time...People with money will usually go for luxury sports car and average Joe in his 20's can't afford to buy anything in lower 30's to mid 30's price range(wich I believe Type R will cost if we ever get one). That's why Acura never sold many Type R's in first place... :blah:

You won't see that or the Type R over here on this side of the world....
Honda hasn't talked about it, it's been everyone else "talking" about it since the last one sold here nearly 15 yrs ago....

It mentions NOTHING nor confirms the bringing of any sort of Type R car to the US.
A boosted Type R has been rumored for at least the last 3 years, it was mentioned on this forum.

As with all Honda "news", I'll believe it when I actually see one for sale in a US showroom.

Time has told us, a little.
Honda hasn't given us a Type R in nearly 15 yrs, nor do I see it happening with how cars have progressed.
They (Honda, among other companies) seem to have given up on the American market when it comes to fun, quick, and sporty vehicles.

A Type R with a Dx price tag, how does that even make sense, c'mon now.

You want to seem intelligent and call people out, join us in reality for a quick second.
It still says "Concept" and we all know how close a concept vehicle is to an actual production model.
Also, since you're all knowing and seem to be on the inside at Honda, I must have missed it, where does it specifically state we will see the Type R coming to US showrooms or even the North American Market?

That interior looks much better - the double stack always just looked tacky and overengineered to me.

Now as to if we even get it (and the Type R striped dashmat)...

I went to Mid-Ohio this weekend with a group of people from the itrexpo as guests of Realtime Acura and got to see the 2016 Civic Type R in person. The badge # of this car was 0000 (in black). The vin number was 000071. Honda was at the event and confirmed that the States will see a down tuned version. Furthermore, this is a "media" car so it will be put in a museum or destroyed. It was driven to Mid-Ohio with an Ohio license plate. (pictures were taken by a friend)

Too big - it's Focus-sized, when I'd prefer Fiesta-sized. But yes, I do understand that won't happen.

I'd prefer the bright green of the concept car; that was the cat's meow. :-)b

Hmm... Looks like Honda's starting to waver. Motor Authority (a fairly reputable site) is now saying the US version Type R will be based on the sedan body (instead of the hatch): http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1099759_watch-the-highlights-from-the-2016-honda-civics-reveal-video. This switch would cut the sales way down, and has to lead to further delay of the release, so I'm guessing Honda's looking for a convenient excuse to back away from the car (for the U.S. anyway).

The mid Ohio car looks like a WRX that's been slightly compressed.

Not really a surprise - almost no one brings their hatches here anymore. Americans just hate practicality, it seems.

I wouldn't mind legitimate, affordable, practical, wagons to come back either....

From the video, still no real mention of whether or not the US will see a Type R, still guessing NO.
