1986 CRX 1.5

Postby SilentRon » Sun Aug 14, 2016 10:25 pm

Can anyone provide the common causes for a front end vibration that occurs at 70+ mph? Tires/wheels are balanced. I've swapped tire/wheel assemblies front to back and nothing changed, so I'm assuming it's not a tire or wheel problem. And yes, it's a high mileage CRX with 5 speed gearbox, so I suspect something is terribly worn. :(

Please let me know if you have questions regarding this post, or if you require additional information. Thanks in advance!

When was the last time the car was aligned?
Check your ball joints, tie rods.
Do you feel it while braking?
Is it a vibration from side to side or up and down?

To check tie rod tips and ball joint integrity: 1. Jack up front of car until wheels are off the ground. 2. To check tie rod tips, grab each wheel with two hands left and right and wiggle. If tie rod tip is worn, it will be loose-replace. 3. To check ball joint wear, grab top and bottom of each wheel and wiggle up and down. If loose ball joint is worn-replace lower arm.

The car has not been aligned to my knowledge. I do not feel the vibration while braking. Please let me know if you have further questions. Thank you.
