CRX Legend/Cooper brake upgrade

Postby ki11r0y1086 » Fri Jan 29, 2016 10:26 pm

Been researching a stage 2 brake upgrades for my 1991 CRX Si for light track, Auto X, and daily driver use. Found out about the Legend/Cooper upgrade for the Integra front brakes, and the RSX/Si upgrade for the 92-95 Civic rear brakes. Sounds great sigh me up! From what I have read this should work on a CRX. However I have a nack for ordering the wrong parts or find out it wont work with what I have. Here is a list of parts I have and of parts I think I will need. If you know the year(s) of the car and model(s), part numbers, have any suggestions on brands, or know what Ricky Bobby should do with his hands please buzz in now.

I have
-OEM 1991 Integra front brakes upgrade with too many miles on it
-OEM CRX Si rear disc with even more miles on it
-OEM fat five GSR rims and soon to be paired with new sticky 205/50/15 tires

what I need for front?
-1991 CRX Si front stainless steel brake lines
-1990-1993 Integra 4040 proportioning vale
-1990+ Integra master cylinder - with out ABS
-1990+ Integra brake booster - with out ABS
-1994 Acura Legend GS calipers and brackets - I think front or rear?
-1994 Acura Legend GS - or - 2004-2008 TSX pads? - I think front or rear?
-Mini Cooper-NON-S rotors 280mm - What Year(s) and Model(s)?
-Any modifications need? - or something I missed?

what I need for rear?
-1991 CRX Si rear stainless steel brake lines
-2002-2006 RSX rear calipers
-2002-2006 RSX rear pads
-2002-2003 Civic Si hatchback rear rotors
-Any modifications need? - or something I missed?

I'm running the coopers on front JDM SiR control arms with Type R calipers. Ordered calipers from RockAuto. The caliper bracket is required and it needs to have a certain stamp on it as there are two different brackets. First time I ordered the pair I got one of each. Sorry I can't remember which one you need.... been a while but love them.

The upgrade you are wanting will not work with the stock Crx si hubs, his worked because he has the SiR

Youd need to source a set of civic ex knuckles for the swap your talking about. I personally did a 10.3" front setup on stock si hubs, 90-91 ex rotors, type-r calipers, type-r caliper brackets and a 3mm spacer.

The rear upgrade you are talking about you do not need to buy rsx calipers, you only need the caliper brackets, the stock crx si caliper will bolt right up to the rsx/ep3 bracket, but will use base model rsx/ep3 (larger) pads and rotors

If you really want a big brake kit for the front, fastbrakes.com seems to have the best bang for the buck kits, tons of options depending what youre going for, simple adapters or full blown race applications

For the use you describe:

Front:
Stock Calipers (maintained and functioning correctly)
Brembo Blanks
Stainless Lines
DOT 4 Fluid

Street/Autox: Hawk HP+
Light Track: Swap pads to Hawk DTC60

Rear:
Stock with SS lines
HP+ Pads

You will be happy and saved a lot of $$.

I would never advise someone who values there sanity to run Hp+ on a daily driven street car, the dusting is ridiculous, and corrosive, and will annoy the ears off of you. I literally had to clean my wheels every 100 miles, the polished lips would have a good coat of dust already

I have Integra front knuckles already and I know this is a bit over kill but I am replacing all the parts of my braking system with new parts for safety reasons why not upgrade for a little more money. I have had HP+ on a DD before the key is using slotted rotors so the noise is not their, the trade off is cleaning your wheels ever 5 min. I am heart set on the upgrade just need to know if I am buying the right parts

What did you need to use? I'm running SiR hardware, so I think most of it is just bolt-on. I'm going to do lines first, and see how it feels from there.

I can tell you that Legend calipers to SiR knucks are a simple bolt-on. On a related note, I suspect, but have not completely been able to verify, that the SiR knuckles and hubs interchange with ~1990 Prelude EX knucks...

Cool. Maybe I will just do that first. Upgrade to stainless lines, then front Legend calipers and stock pads, and upgraded pads in the rear, and see how it feels. New rotors all around.

What size wheels are you using? Assuming 15" doesn't have any issues.

15's fit for sure. I really like the EBC greenstuff pads, they were great with this setup. Stock m/c and prop valve, good balance at 210 kph on the autobahn. Every bit as good as the Wilwoods I run now, but smoother.
