Help me identify this motor

Postby Mitchyz250f » Mon Feb 20, 2017 4:56 pm

I purchased a 89 CRX HF with the intent of putting a K24 motor in it. I'm selling the JDM B16a that came with the car. A few people have shown interest in the motor and asked very good questions like is it a SIR-II, B16A2, B16A3 or something else. I don't know and I live pretty far from the shop. My friend that knows the owner of the shop lives and hour away and can't get down there too often. But Sunday he went down and took some pics. I showed them to the shops around me but they didn't have a clue.

Please take a look at these pics.
Block number: B16A 1036474)

number on the head: it's either P3CA64251 or B3CA64251)

It's simply a b16a.
A motor without a number after the last letter, in this case "A", means it's from a car from the Japanese market.

That B3C... # is actually on the head gasket. It's not a useful number.

There is a 3-digit code on the head, but every B16 head ever made says PR3. So that's not very useful. Look at the date stamp on the head to get more info about the year it was built:

With this engine being boosted, there is a strong(er) possibility that the head and block have been apart at some point. You'd have to pull the head and look at the pistons to be 100% sure of what you have.

Thanks jfrolang. As always you responses are short, informative and to the point. And you are correct the engine was rebuilt 2000 miles ago.
