Another dumb question! Electronic oil gauge? Wut?

Postby Pancak3e_batter » Tue Mar 21, 2017 5:04 pm

I pulled an auto meter gauge out of a car and found the wiring diagram for it. It says it just splices into the motors stock gauge and out puts, but when I splice that, the gauge doesn't work and the dash oil light doesn't come on on start up, even though I have the 3 wires rapped together,

What am I doing wrong?

If you want to use a digital oil pressure gauge, you'll need a proper sender first. The stock oil pressure sensor is simply an on/off switch that controls the warning light on the dash. If the pressure is above the threshold, the light goes off. Naturally, you can't use this to get any more info than what that oil light tells you.

get a mechanical gauge for the oil pressure, it's the better option.
