Not really getting any answer I was looking for ;)

So let me say this over. I'm looking to get a torsion bar to put in my 86 Crx.

I'm going to be using this car offroad and for rally. Comfort not the issue really. I want to be able to take jumps and bumps without bottoming out. What size torsion bar do you guys recommend?

I know there are several 1st gen guys running around with Upgrade Motoring torsion bars. I don't have direct experience with them, but the descriptions on their site should tell you a lot:

24 - Sport (equivalent to 204 lb/in springs)
27.5 - Competition (~350 lb)
29 - Race (~432 lb)

29 or larger apparently also require additional modifications to the tubes. How stiff do you want it? Personally I'd go for the 27s.

24mm is as stiff as you will need, and still retain kidney function. Be sure to match your rear springs to your T-bars, 350lbs. rear springs are a nice match to the 24mm.

The single best improvement to your suspension is to add a rear sway bar. Addco makes a good one, it is available from Summit Racing.

Adding a front strut brace and a B pillar brace really helps t stiffen the chassis. But if you are serious about handling, add a set of fender braces.

You have chosen poorly. This car's chassis is not particularly stiff nor is there much suspension travel in the car's design.

If you are serious about offroad/rally usage then torsion bars are the least of your problems. You will need to build a real frame for the car, the stock unibody will not survive the first time you get air under the tires.

I jumped my 86 Civic HB during a night time TSD rally. The road curved but I didn't and I hit the berm. The car jumped proly 20ft before I saw tracks again. After I had a different accident with the car, the body shop had to put my car on the rack to get out the negative camber caused by that jump.
