Link in new window/tab

i dunno if its just me and my firefox browser, but i'd prefer it if http links were made as new windows or tabs in the browser. its easier to browse and close it if its in a new tab/window when youre done with it. than have to press back, or whatever to get where you were in the forum.

if theres a setting i can change in firefox, let me know.

ah ctrl trick helps. forgot about that. still kind of annoying.

yeah, i already looked at that setting. it doesnt really affect the actual links as a "new page".

well it actually depends how the link was coded. Some links can be made to launch a new window.. the default is same window.

You know the rolly part of your mouse to scroll?
Press it down when its over a link.
It opens the link as a new tab.
Works just fine for us, then again we also use IE

The site is setup to open links in a new window if the link has the [url] brackets, it opens in the same window if there were no brackets. Tom (crxfisher) tried fixing this a ways back but it was causing glitches, and he just hasn't had time to dedicate to it.

With Firefox, you can also just right-click on the link and choose either "Open Link in New Window," or "Open Link in New Tab."

Exactly what I do. "View New Posts" and then start tabbing everyone.

well it sucks that this is the only forum that i have to "remember" to right click before i open a link.

im sure its not just me who's in the middle of writing a reply, then double checked a link, then forwarded to the link in the same window and go back to find the reply gone.

i also end up closing windows/tabs to links by habit and then find i closed the forum window/tab and have to go back to where i was browsing on this forum.

its just a simple thing that makes this site annoying and could/should be fixed easily.

When you are making a reply with a link in it, are you using the [url] tag like jfrolang mentioned above?
Those links open in new tabs.

I just tried it in a reply window and it worked. I created a link in the reply, hit "preview", clicked on the link and it opened in a new tab. I was able to check the link, close the tab, then go about finishing the reply.

I second this. Very annoying that this is the only forum where links don't open in a new tab by default.

same, google chrome does have this option though. not only that, when you right click the top (first option) is "Open in new tab" instead of "open in new window."

Personally i use google chrome, not firefox.

May seem that way but it's really not. I'm on a lot of other forums and this is the only one which opens links in the current window/tab. So obviously I've gotten into the habit of just clicking the link. Which sucks when you aren't paying attention, think it opened in another tab and close it out when your done. Then you have to open crxcommunity back up.
