Fuel Efficiency

Postby keastland » Tue Jul 05, 2011 12:50 pm

I'd like to suggest a separate Technical Forum dedicated to Fuel Efficiency.

It appears that most CRX owners are more into the sporty aspect of CRX's, so it can make searching for threads relating to mods designed for fuel efficiency and trial in patience.

For me, my CRX purchase was absolutely all about fuel efficiency and in light of the current fuel prices... I have to assume that there are many more currently and in the future.

Thank you.

I don't see why the fuel questions can't be asked in one of the already present catagories.

Of course they can, but as I said in my original post... there's just so much performance related stuff that when you do a search for certain terms you have to go through about 20 posts about performance mods before you find one about FE.

It's just a suggestion. If the mods don't feel it's a worthy one... then it will just die a nice lonely death.

^ very true, I highly doubt they would make a section dedicated to fuel efficiency. Just post it in the modification garage

It's a request that comes up every once in a while, but honestly there just isn't much justification for it. You can post fuel efficiency questions in the lounge; there's probably one such thread in there every two months.

I dont think the fuel efficiency with a b6 should be messed with. If you get more mpgs out of one you would have spent more money than your saving in fuel and could of worked a job during the time you spent on it and made more money than your saving.

Maintain it and your golden :-)b

As things stand now, I would honestly love to keep this car for the rest of my life. The engine is old, so at some point I'm going to have to rebuild it. Plus, there are a lot of other little things that can be done. For instance, right now I know I need to replace the o'rings on my injectors... so I might as well clean 'em out while I'm at it. I'm sure there's a myriad of things that I don't know about too; idea's to lessen the weight with parts swaps, newer/lighter parts swaps (like the Honda Insight front brake calipers the previous owner installed). That's actually what prompted this suggestion. I couldn't find any posts regarding that swap anywhere on CRXCommunity (using the search function), so I thought a dedicated forum might make sense. But I understand. Thanks for listening.

Maybe a fuel efficiency sub-forum, perhaps under modification garage? I'd enjoy this.

I managed to pull 41 mpg highway multiple times from my b18c1 Y1 transmissioned 91 CRX Si. That was without any special hyper-miling driving techniques used, just normal driving, some stop and go.

It cost me LESS money to fill up that car with premium fuel, and I got better mpg, than my 96 Accord LX, which I filled with regular fuel.

From the limited response to just this thread and the month and a half for you to respond should tell you it's not needed.

i think something could be put in the FAQ at the top of the modified forum. that would be easy to find. other than that, i would say the majority of crx owners like the mpg they get, but are not actively trying to improve it.

We could just make an "official fuel efficiency thread" in the lounge and if it goes somewhere maybe the mods could decide if they want to take it further.

Yeah, their can be a section you click on that reads " Fuel Efficiency" , then their would be a link. After you click the link it would read " Maintain your CRX".

I like this idea. If such a topic is created, I'll make sure it gets taken care of.

I don't think a official efficiency thread would belong in the lounge........

Is that the appropriate place for it? Some efficiency strategies involve modifications to the car, sometimes extensive.

So we'll cross-link it in both FAQ threads.
