No buying/bidding parts via pm

Maybe there should be a rule to POST in the freaking thread if you want to buy something lol. Nothing against Baker in this thread it just gets somewhat annoying to me when I post to buy something and the OP comes back and says he had 5 pms already.

Usually if I want to buy something but have specific questions, Ill post in the thread then shoot over a pm.

This site where I've been since 2002 has had this rule for years. Since I can see someone elses pm's it helps see the situation before I start putting confidence in an item lol.

That's a preference. I prefer to purchase everything through PM. From my experience, I see a PM as someone that is more serious than someone that just posts on a thread.

I see it that way too, from both a buyer and seller standpoint. I've had far more ppl that just post in my FS threads saying they want something, back out of a deal than those that have PM'd me directly.

All the post/Pm's show the time and date, so it should be first come, first serve, via PM or within the thread.

i just assume everyone wants to buy the same thing i want, PM the seller and wait to hear back. when i sell, i message people in order and give them a time frame to pay. if we can't work it out, i go to the next person. i try to remain professional but as dave said, money talks. i can't tell you how many people want something and then back out later for whatever reason.

If you were buying something on Craigslist, you can't get mad because somebody else called the seller before you. First come first served, money talks, etc.

Beyond that, something like this would be impossible to enforce.

Well we do regulate if people can post links on ebay or not, so dont say it cant be done... because it is being done.

I think what Baker means is that people can (and often do) advertise their items at other places as well, and we can't control how people communicate at those other places. You may post/PM here first, but the seller may have already been contacted by someone at one of the other places.

And like Jfro mentioned, the idea of not allowing people to make offers via PM is virtually impossible to regulate. We would have to have access to, and continually monitor, people's private PM's. That's not going to happen.

What it comes down to is, you can do what you can to let the seller know you are interested in their item. From there, it's in their hands. If the item gets sold to someone else, you move on to the next deal.

The only thing that I'll add to that is that is IS in the rules that a seller must sell for their advertised price. In the end, it's up to the seller to be honest...but they should not be accepting "10 bucks more."

The Admin team only has so much control of certain aspects of the forum.
You put forth rules, hope ppl are honest, and enforce what you can.

If we are informed of it, we'd remind them of the classified rules and if it were to keep up, take steps to remedy it.

Also though, isn't that part of what the member feedback section is for? If enough shady stuff happens with the same person and people mention it, the problem will take care of itself. I'm sure though even if this were the case and the "Shaddy backstabber deal cutter" dude had a shiny new OE item you wanted, you'd probably jump on it.
