"CRX" Image Hosting

Alright mods, don't frown on this one immediately, we could make this work.

I run a few servers, and I have a few hosts (being a web developer and all), and I'm really annoyed at the fact that some people have to pay for photo accounts to have more than x amount of pictures, or some accounts go away and then their pictures are gone from threads, etc. I think EVERYONE hate's that sometimes.

What if I set up some PHP Image Hosting Script so that people could log into images.crxcommunity.com or something and ADD their account, same username as here (a requirement that we would have to personally check), and put thier pictures up there. That way they'd have a place to live forever.

I know I'd use it. I don't know about phpBB's database access barriers but we (I) could also maybe write a php script so that every time someone signed up for a username there it would check to see it was one here. This could be a test at first but then we could have it so that everyone could see other people's images.

There are many image hosting scripts already out there, so just think about it.

I'll check back here to see if the mods are interested or if some people think this is a good idea/would use this.

It would only allow car/CRX pictures AND they would become available for us to use forever, which means even if they deleted thier account here or there but made a how-to, those pictures would still be on this site for people to see forever.

Any upgrade to the site is looked down upon.....last year they said a upgrade was coming soon...................... Define soon? 1 to 50 months from now.

Haha yeah. We'll I did notice the software was old, but hey, it still works!

I'd love to know a little more about how the site is running, hosts, etc.

I might just go ahead and start a car pic hosting website by myself...

I actually did have an integrated image hosting app very early on in this site's history. It worked OK, but the integration wasn't great. I could see this getting really huge if it were done today. As you know, disk space is expensive when it comes to hosting. I'd consider doing this, but I'm just worried about the cost.

And Dave, it's not that upgrades are frowned upon. It's that I've got a lot of other responsibilities outside of this site.

Anyways, I honestly don't have that much time for this site either, but image hosting could be cool...

Not instant hosting (I log on a few times a week), but the images will stay live until Tumblr deletes my blog.
