My 1991 Crx Si TGP B16a project car/

What's up guys! Just got a new project car last week in the form of a 1991 CRX Si. Its an original Tahiti Green Pearl car and i bought it mainly for the fact that it had a B16a in and it was a running car. I got it for really cheap so the body wasn't in too good of shape. I already have a 91 Si that I've had for about a year and and a half so i might pull the B16a out of this car and put in my other car. My plans are to completely restore this car back to it's OEM specs and to either keep the B16a and make it look 100% SiR or put the D16a6 i have in it and make it completely oem. id like to hear some feedback. i want to do a complete respray of the original color but some bodywork needs done but once i finish that up I'm going to have my brother repaint it.I'm going to replace anything missing with either parts from my 2 parts cars or to search around for parts. I'm happy with the car and i think it has tons of potential.Here are some pictures that was sent to me from the guy i bought it from! I have yet to take any good pictures of the car or even wash it because it hasn't been over 40 degrees since i bought the car.





and the main reason i bought it B16a mated to a YS1 Transmission.

I'm curious if someone could tell me if this is the correct valve cover for this motor. I found tons of information on it and the whole gsr/b16a2 mix up but no information i could really understand.
I also would love to get some advice on how to paint this car like what paint,how much I'll need, ways to save a little bit of money.

Good luck with the project. Mine was in about the same shape when I started. In some ways perhaps worse. I love the TGP color! The only reason I didn't paint mine that color is my best friend owns 2 CRX's that color lol. One of the biggest ways to save some money is do your bodywork yourself. Anyone can learn to do it, to do it right just takes lots of time and practice. I went to a vocational school for it years ago but it had been about 8years before I started body working my car and I was real rusty. Get a buddy that works for a bodyshop or someone to answer your questions and give you guidence along the way. If you take your time and when in doubt about a panel, do it over until its right, you should be fine. That said, your bodywork with make or break the paint job so..... Also, use a good light weight body filler. Not the cheap stuff. May cost you $100 per gallon but consider it $100 toward your paint job. Use lots of primer and guide coat and block it over and over until you know it's right. The body work and prep is everything. Another way to save money is when buying paint, in my opinion it is better to invest in clear than base. The clear is the protectant and the only surface you actually see so base is just color and clear is a little more important. If you buy paint somewhere like O'reilly, they sell Dupont and Nason. Nason from what I understand is made by Dupont but is the generic cheaper version but is completely compatible with Dupont's Chroma clear which is much better than the Nason IMO. Some other brands of paint require the same exact line of base to be used with clear. As far as how much paint you'll need, really depends what type of paint. Different paints reduce differently and give you different sprayable amounts. I ended up mixing 1 1/2 gallons of base before it was reduced which was way more than needed. I just wanted to make sure I had extra to hond onto in case anything happened to the car that I needed to repaint so it would all match correctly.

The best advice I can give to save money is TAKE YOUR TIME! I constantly see people cutting corners to try and save money and get it done quicker only to pull it apart and redo it later because they're not happy with the results. That ends up costing more in the long run. If you get to a point where you don't have money for something, you can always just let the car sit until you can save a little more. Or you can almost always find something to work on that doesn't cost money. At least no more than some sand paper and filler.

Thanks so much for the advice man! What I forgot to mention in my first post is that I am in auto collision and repair in my school's technical school!! So I get to use there filler and basically anything i'll need all ill need to pay for is paint supplies. But I should buy 2-3 gallons kuat to ne on the safe side?
Did you do your entire car? Interior and engine bay? Because I plan too. Im still considering what paint to buy but ill more than likely use your advice so I appreciate it!

Thats the same thing I took in high school but didn't build this car till years later.

I painted all jams plus all the interior sides, trunk floor, under the dash, did the engine bay twice, and exterior. Pretty much the only part I didn't do was under the seats cause I planned to run carpet anyway. Just wanted to make sure any cracks that might show were covered. I still have quite a bit left.

Finally got to work on the car! did the first of many detail jobs on it and im somewhat happy of how it came out.ill get some pics of it tomorrow. I pulled the seats and most of the rear interior out and vacuumed the interior and scrubbed the carpet.under the Cargo area was spray painted black so now im definitely going to paint the interior when i paint it. The bay came out nice other than then rust i found on the drivers shock tower was worse than i thought. I cant wait to completely tear this thing apart to paint it!

been a while guys. figured i might update my thread. car is pretty much finished but i have a ton of more parts coming in for it from new zealand.
hers the car in April out at Hday summer. the car took top 100 and i got second place in the crx class!

Thanks a ton man! I wanted a tgp car I'm any conditon and got super lucky when I found my b16 car! The interior and the exterior were both gutred at one point and the engine bay will be gettin done this winter as well as a glass top installation

My clear tail phase. loved the look of them but they weren't minty enough for me This was one of my favorite photoshoots as it was the only one i've done with my brothers EF hatch. i still had the Illumina wheels(work emotion replicas) and also this was the last shoot i did with the painted hood before it flew up on me. this was around last October.thanks guys. ill post the December shoot soon!:)

How did you hood come up? Not the correct T-bar? I've got so much work into my hood because when I had it shipped over it was damaged and now that's my worst nightmare having it come up going down the road.

Thanks for the kind words man! I had it painted with the jdm front within 8 months hahaha time was of the essence! Luckily this car had very little quarter panel rust but I got it from Virginia so it had a rough life! Haha no car is too far gone in My eyes! But I used my usdm t bar but modified it to work with the jdm. Didn't have a problem with it one bit ironically on my birthday in November on my way home from a car meet. I quadruple checked the hood before I left the meet but on the high way going around 45 mph it malfunctioned somehow or another:/ such an awful day. I definitely suggest aerocatches just for safety but I tie mine down every time I drive it due to flashbacks of it flying up on me;/ even though the tbar is good now I'm still terrified
