Got a problem with your stock CRX? This is where you should start.

Any other Milano red R81 CRX's here?

Postby 4crx4me » Mon Jul 19, 2010 8:46 pm

I asked this over on HT a few months ago but never got any answers.
So it remains a mystery, to me.

Does anyone besides me, have a stock red '91 Si that is in fact Milano red, and not Rio red?
Mine is a fairly late build '91 Si, but even still, I can't find any documentation of R81 being used on any '91 model Honda, anywhere.
R81 only shows up as a '92 or later Honda color. My '92 DB2 is in fact R81, and fading in the same places just like my R81 CRX.

I've seen one other R-81 CRX, and it has to this day remained a mystery to me. This one was a 91 HF with a very late build (serial # over 23k).

Wow and here I thought my R-81 CRX was near the end. But the one you describe, is even later than mine, and has a much higher serial #. Mine is in the 14K range, with a build date of Aug, 1991.

Any idea of the build date on that HF?

Anyone else, know anymore about R81 CRX's?

Thanks for the info, jfro! But I guess the R81 CRX mystery remains.

I don't know the build date. I'm now curious about the continuity of the serial # though, because my 91's serial is 17095 with a build date of May 1991.

I have always wondered about the continuity of CRX VIN's myself. Especially since they were sold all over the world in such divergent configurations.

I found out a little about '91 CRX VIN's. It seems, though I have no proof, that each trim level had it's own sequential number, starting with 000001.

Though I still can't find out why Honda switched from R63 to R81 in the middle of a model run.

Does anyone have any additional info for the R81 color code CRX's? I Know these are last production color for 91'. I could not find more info on this. Does this make the most rarest CRX in the U.S?

'91 Si here with R-81. VIN ends in: 13xxx. I'll get the production date shortly. Car is under the cover in hibernation mode.

Any pictures for the difference? I heard it was darker than rio red, but I've never seen one before. I have a Torino Red DX, but I'm sure it won't be that dark.
The LumberJack and Big Red. It's happening; slowly, but still.

I've got a filter for my mouth, it just isn't a good one.

I know this is an old thread, just wanted to add some info for historical reference.

All Honda VINs in the database show R81, or Milano Red, for 1991.

The reality is that many of these are indeed Rio Red, or R63.

I have confirmed that there is an HF with VIN 018397 which is still Rio Red, which is the latest one I have personally confirmed.

I know for a fact that there are true R81 Milano Red CRX out there. When the cutoff was, still TBD, but a really neat little historical fact. I will update the goldenerahonda.org ED8/ED9 database with this note.

For anyone who ever runs across an R63 or R81 1991, I would love to know the last 6 digits of the VIN to try to pin this down. If we can pin it down to a range I could then review all VINs and estimate just how many R81 exist.
