1985 CRX high RPM

Postby VolFan06 » Fri May 17, 2019 8:26 am

I recently bought a stock 1985 Honda CRX with 130k on it. When I bought it, it seemed like it didn’t have any get up and go at all. On flat ground in 5th gear about 50 is all it would do at 3000RPMs. I replaced the clutch and that helped a lot, but it still will only do about 60mph at 3000RPMs but that still seems like a lot to me. Also it seems like I have to run through gears pretty quickly. What would be “holding it back”? Maybe this is how they run I’m not sure. I just don’t really like running a 34 year old car at 3k+ down the highway. I’m not trying to beef it up or anything I want to keep it as original as possible but want to know if there is anything I can do to help improve this?
Also where is a good place to get body replacement parts for these?
Thanks in advance!

My 1987 DX is exactly 3000 RPM at 100kph. With the right sized tires of course. I had an original one of these back in the 80's and it was the same.

It is a high revving honda. I don´t know which engine you have but all my old hondas rev approximately 4000 RPM in fifth gear on highway limit which is in my country 130 km/h.

The CRX Si models run approximately 3000rpm @ 60mph, 3500rpm @ 70mph, and 4000rpm @ 80mph.

Being that it's a small engine without a lot of power, it really doesn't wake up 'til around 3500-4000rpm. I ran my Si models at 80-90mph regularly for hundreds of thousands of miles without issue. It's a Honda; it can take it. In fact, it loves it.
This isn't my signature. I have to type this every time I make a post.
