Hi.

This thread is so long and so old (almost 5 years now) I felt like newcomers might be a little intimidated trying to read the whole thing. It takes at least an hour, if not more like 2 or 3, but it's a great read.

I recently got back into the CRX after my brother drove it and the hood opened on the windshield. I couldn't stand it looking bad, plus it was parked in front of my house and I had to the look at the thing every day.

HI!

Ok, I am about a month old here on this forum, I just got my first car. When I saw a rex, I knew it was the car I wanted.

SO, then I found one on Craigslist and drove about an hour to get it. My dad and had been looking at Crx's all week and this one was the one. Its a 1991 Dx. It had a D16Y7 in it, but I screwed the engine up in the first week, I don't want to talk about it lol. Here are the plusses and minuses:

+:
- No rust
- New stainless steel full exhaust system (exhaust manifold as well)
- Great interior (a few leaks but overall good).
- It just felt right!
- really great stereo system, 12" sub, 6x9's in the back, new ones in the front

-:
- I paid a lot, even though they are hard to find in the area
- I broke the engine
- The exterior looks so bad!
- The rims are a little big for my taste
- Crappy front bumper and headlights
- People painted over my rear triangles!

Im sure there is more but thats what I have now...

The outside looks like [Crud]. I think everyone will agree.

So I am going to de-rice it and get it looking sexy and new! My little brothers are stuck on the ricer look but I honestly LOVE the looks of the OEM crx's, they really are beautiful cars.

Right now, it is in the shop getting a nice low milage D16Y8 in. I can't wait!

Here are the pics that I saw on the craigslist posting. I will get more detailed pics for everyone up next week.

The OLD engine, I am keeping the intake and that kind of stuff... we'll see how it looks when the new engine is in.

The 17" rims, um... I'll have to deal, but these are my last priority, I may get a job very soon, then I'll have the money:


The interior, only thing im doing is fixing the leaks here and there and putting in the OEM seatbelts and a new shift knob, too bad if you don't like it:


The back, nice exhaust huh? I will be taking the "H" off next week, also, I have to do something about those rear triangles...


The car in general. I'll have to fix the trim and everything else. I know it's not beautiful, and I know, they painted the rear drums [potty mouth] red, way overdoing it...

Next week hopefully I will get the headlights and bumper from some local guys. I will still need some corner lights though.

You mean suspension, coilovers, all that? I'm a newb so I don't know exactly what route to go.

I will probably lower it eventually...

Like I said, if I get this job, the project will go much faster and I will do much more!

However, getting moar low, is possibly last on my list.

Nice, good call on going back to the stock bumper/headlights. I bet that Y8 will be a blast to drive compared to your old dpfi setup. Aftermarket sunroof? I’ve got a bunch of 90/91 corner lights just sitting around that you can have for free if you want…

I think its the stock roof panel, i wanted to put a aftermarket sunroof in but everyone says its a bad idea cuz it leaks. Idk, mine leaks already lol. What do you all think?

I CAN'T wait for my Y8 to be put in!!! And to just freekin' have a car to drive lol.

Supposedly the car will be ready tomorrow, unless the ECU dosent work.

As soon as it's out of the shop I'll get to work and take some pics!

What's up man! I think you shouldn't put in that sunroof it's ugly in my opinion and looks so cheap! I am also going to keep and eye on this. My b18 should be done by next Monday

The 1/4 Panels are really in good shape. This car has virtually NO rust, as far as I have found. I think theres a little bondo here and there though...

I don't know off the top of my head what the seats are but I'll get some better pics and try to see if I can find out as soon as its out of the shop.

Everyone cross your fingers, hopefully tomorrow my engine will be in and out of the shop! I get to drive again! Hope it works out for you too beto

As for the sunroof, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Does anyone have any links of aftermarket pop-up sunroofs/how-to's? I wanted to see at least who they were made by and how much they are/how to put them in.

I LOVE pics and so one thing you guys will have is pics. I've got a sweet Cannon with a 2 GB memory card. There's no way I won't have a [crud] load of pics here!

Just for an update for anyone who cares:

The car is still in the shop, it's stripped right now. Wish I could go up there and get some pics... I would go if I had a car

He said it fired up and sounded good and everything, but he's going to wire everything back and put everything where it's supposed to be. The only problem then could be that the ECU may not work b/c it came from an Auto. Would that make a difference? I'll find out tomorrow!

Anyways, it should be out tomorrow by the time I get out of school. The I'll be a pic madman!!!

Just got home. The D16Y8 is in and running like a beast, this mechanic really knows how to do things right...

I can tell the difference with the VTEC and the Multi Point Injection, its awesome!

I don't know if my ECU is perfect though so I'm eventually just going to get one thats manual. Right now it's fine though and not eating gas or being weird or anything.

So, because its so late here in the USA I couldn't take pics. Hopefully I will have some time tomorrow. If not, this weekend is "car weekend" according to my dad so I'll totally be able to get all the pics then.

Hopefully phatboy and I will be able to trade lights and I will have the OEM's by next week.

This bumper will maybe be my christmas present along with a good Honda service manual.

Maybe by my birthday (april) i'll be able to afford a good paint job and everything like that. If I get that job however (which it looks like I may) my paint job will be here within the next month or two.

So, thats the gist of it, wish I had pics for everyone. The Y8 really does look awesome!

I think it just needs to be lowered a bit, and painted. Those 17s don't even look bad to me, suprisingly. Usually I'm not a fan of anything over a 15" rim.

Hey Guys,
Good news!

I will be taking SOME pics today, the rest on Saturday!

I met a local CRXr and dicided to invite him to the community: his handle is:

Anyways, he had an 89 Dx Auto but he wants to "trick it out" so we are going to be trading bumpers on saturday and also maybe lights, if phatboy decides to not trade with me.

Can a bumper from an 89 Dx fit on my 91 Dx without too much hassle? I would imagine it would. Same thing with the lights?

Either way, within the month I should have Lights and a bumper, maybe I'll get enough money for a paint job for christmas!

The 89 parts you mentioned will all fit easily. The trim on the 89 bumper is a little wider than yours, still it won’t look bad. You should trade him the little plastic clips on the fenders that hold the corner lights on too, that way you can use the two screws for the 89 corner lights on your car. He’ll need to use your 91 headlight buckets/clips in order to use the 91 corners on his car. Gonna look a lot better, can’t wait to see pics.

Alright!!! Got my bumper mostly on, and my lights in and working (almost lol).

First before pics...

OK! It was cool seeing 2 CRX's in my garage (mines on the right, his is on the left)

It was kind of a pain in the ass, but it's done now (almost). I need some more bolts to keep my front bumper from sagging, and the guys who did my engine swap (the Y7 before I got the car, not the Y8 after I got the car) switched up some wiring from the front corner lights... I also have one bad bulb on my left highbeam...

What it looks like now (the jack (my dad bought it as one of my Christmas presents today while I was out) is there because its kinda saggy and I don't want it getting used to that):




The Turn lights or whatever theyre called... waiting to be put in!



Anyways, so there are some pics... I will paint the bumper to match my sad color later this week.

Tomorrow I should be going to the auto store and woking out all the little kinks...
